On Monday, April 24, 2017, excavation for water main work will require the closure of an additional travel lane along 20th Street SE. Eastbound travel will only be allowed through the work zone. Westbound traffic along 20th Street SE will be detoured at 11th Avenue SE to 16th Street SE (see map). Local traffic into neighborhoods in the Ben Franklin Elementary area will still be allowed. The water main work and one-way eastbound travel is expected to last two weeks and the road will be re-opened to two-way traffic on May 8, 2017, weather dependent.

This work will also impact the intersection at 3rd Avenue SE when the water main connection is made at the intersection. The project will not impact the entrance to Meadow Park. The project is expected to last into the month of June.

As a reminder, the two railroad crossings near Seneca will be replaced by Canada Pacific (CP) Rail at a later date. The entire roadway will be closed to through traffic for approximately 2-3 weeks when the railroad crossings are replaced, and all traffic will be detoured along the same route noted above. The best estimate from CP Rail for this work is mid to late May, but that is always subject to change.

Bus routes may be impacted by the project. Riders can check bus schedules and route information at www.rptride.com

Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to use care while driving or walking through and around all work zones. The cooperation and patience of the public is greatly appreciated during construction.
