New Assistant City Administrators Coming On Board
The City of Rochester is ready to fill two key leadership positions in the City Administration Department. City Administrator Steve Rymer has announced his selections, naming Aaron Parrish as Assistant City Administrator II and Terry Spaeth as Assistant City Administrator I.
Mr. Rymer joined the City of Rochester in October and immediately faced the prospect of filling the roles of both his assistants. Current Assistant Administrator II Gary Neumann announced his intention to retire early in 2018 after more than three decades with the City of Rochester. Assistant Administrator I Aaron Reeves left Rochester in September to become the City Administrator of Cloquet, Minnesota.
Mr. Parrish will be joining the City on Feb. 1, 2018. He has served as the City Administrator of Forest Lake since 2011, and previously held positions in other Minnesota cities, including Crookston and Arden Hills.
In his role as Assistant City Administrator II, Mr. Parrish will provide organizational leadership, oversee the City's budget process, advance the City's economic development and redevelopment efforts, assist with service delivery enhancements, actively engage the community, and coordinate legislative activities, among other responsibilities.
In announcing his selection Mr. Rymer indicated, "Aaron brings a wealth of experience to Rochester from his previous City Administrator positions and has the leadership qualities necessary to be an integral part of moving our organization forward. I am so pleased that he will be joining our team."
Mr. Parrish stated, "I am grateful for the opportunity to join one of the premier communities in Minnesota and the United States. While I have big shoes to fill, I look forward to working with Mr. Rymer, the City's professional team, Mayor, Common Council, and community."
Terry Spaeth is already a familiar face at City Hall, most recently serving as the City’s Redevelopment Director with City experience dating back to 1986. Mr. Spaeth assumed his new role on Dec. 7 and will be responsible for leading the City's economic development and redevelopment process, overseeing new initiatives and projects, and coordinating activities within the organization. This includes working closely with the City's Destination Medical Center partners on affordable housing, transportation, placemaking, and other key aspects of the collective vision. He indicates he is looking “forward to working with my teammates and serving the City and community in this new role.”
Regarding Mr. Spaeth’s new appointment, Mr. Rymer stated, "Terry has been a key member of our Rochester team for many years and I am excited that he will play an even larger role as an Assistant City Administrator. We have the utmost confidence that Terry will continue to be successful for the benefit of our organization and community because of his experience, work ethic, and the fact that he has established very positive working relationships with many businesses and organizations in Rochester."
