Post Date:05/10/2018 5:27 PM

Interested in running for a City office? On the ballot this year will be the Mayor and three councilmembers, for wards 1, 3, and 5. Learn more about the roles played by these elected officials.

Now is the time for potential candidates to get ready, as candidate filing starts Tuesday, May 22, and runs through Tuesday, June 5. Candidates need to file with the City Clerk's Office, in room 135 of City Hall at 201 Fourth St SE, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday during the filing period. City offices will be closed on Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day. After filing closes on June 5, candidates have until 5 p.m. on June 7 to withdraw. All candidates who have filed affidavits of candidacy will appear on either the Primary ballot on August 14 or, if two or fewer candidates file for a seat, directly on the ballot for the General Election on November 6.

The 2018 candidate filing packet includes important information about how to file and campaign regulations on both the city and state level. At the time of filing, all candidates must submit the City's Ethics Disclosure Form, as well as an affidavit of candidacy and a name pronunciation form, along with the required $50 filing fee or a petition in lieu of the fee.

Learn more about how to file, and find a copy of the 2018 election calendar along with other key election-related information on the elections page of the City website.

The Candidates section of the City's website also includes more information for those seeking office, and will include information about filings received once the filing period has opened.
