Rochester Fire Department Emergency Medical Services

The Rochester Fire Department responds to medical emergencies in conjunction with the Rochester Police Department. The two agencies are the First Responder's for the City of Rochester and provide Basic Life Support. The Mayo Clinic's  Gold Cross Ambulance Service provides Advanced Life Support in our community and elsewhere. Rochester firefighters are trained to the EMT-B level and are members of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

A wide variety of equipment is carried on Rochester's front line engines and trucks. We currently carry the Heart Stream Forerunner semiautomatic defibrillator. The defibrillator program is administered by Dr. White of the Mayo Clinic. The program has had great success in early intervention of cardiac emergencies.

Our rigs also carry a variety of basic first aid equipment. Airway management (infant, child and adult), C-collars,dressings, splints, OB kit, cold packs, eyewash, KED board & backboard to name a few.
