Rochester Trail System

Trails & You

Silver Lake trail

The mission is to promote physical activity through the use of the city trail system. The city trails are a convenient way to include physical activities such as inline-skating, biking, running or walking. Even lifestyles changes, such as walking the dog, walking to work, biking leisurely or walking briskly can benefit you significantly.

Rochester's 85+ miles of trails are bituminous or concrete surfaced and are available for pedestrian, bike, in-line skate, wheelchair, and stroller use.  Printed Park & Trail Maps are available from the Park and Recreation Department main office in City Hall, an example can be seen below (top two links in the table).

Events and Construction on the Trails

There are many walking/running events and work projects that occur on the trails each year.  The Trail Notices page lists general information about events and projects to help inform trail users.  All the events listed are organized by private groups outside of the Park and Recreation Department, unless noted.  All trails remain open for public use during events.

Pedestrian Facilities Winter Maintenance Map

While the City of Rochester maintains (snow removal) many miles of the bike route and trail network throughout the winter months, it is not practical to maintain the entire trail network.  Please click here to view a map (pdf) displaying which sections of the bike route, trail network and public sidewalk are maintained during the winter months, and which sections will not be cleared of snow for the winter season.  Snow covered trails will not be groomed but are available, at users own risk, for cross-country skiing and snow shoeing.
