The City of Rochester’s street maintenance crews have been extending the life of the City streets with a bituminous seal coating process. The City utilizes 3 seal coating processes throughout Rochester. A fog seal only process is used in cul-de-sacs. A process that embeds aggregate chips into an emulsion sprayed on the existing street surface is utilized on residential streets. Higher volume streets have an additional fog seal applied after the chip embedment is complete. These street preservation processes are done on an annual basis by City crews, with the assistance of a paving contractor.
