Rochester Public Music brings people together through concerts, cultural programs, and music education. Our events are free and public by design.

We turn parks into concert venues, bring artists into classrooms, and share music across neighborhoods. Our work is rooted in shared experience, local connection, and the belief that music belongs to everyone.

Music with Purpose.

Rochester Public Music is a department of the City of Rochester.

Our Programs

  • FORWARD Park Concerts: Free summer concerts in Rochester parks. Local bands, local food, and space for everyone to gather.
  • Riverside Music Series: Live music. Big names. No tickets. Large-scale concerts featuring chart-topping acts and rising stars.
  • Sound School: In-school residencies where students explore rhythm, movement, and musical identity — from hip hop and taiko drumming to close-harmony singing.
  • Passport Sessions: Free outdoor concerts during Thursdays Downtown, celebrating culture and connection through sound.

Tuvergen Band

This year’s Sound School artist is Tuvergen Band, a genre-defying Mongolian folk fusion trio blending traditional instruments, throat singing, and contemporary rock influences. The band will spend a week performing for students in area public schools before giving a final public concert at the Historic Chateau Theatre.

This concert is open to all and priced to be community-friendly. We hope you’ll join us for a powerful evening of music, culture, and connection.

New Sounds. Open Minds. Big Impact.

Sound School is a signature Rochester Public Music program that brings internationally recognized artists into local schools—and culminates in a powerful public concert for the whole community.

Founded in 1990, Sound School offers students a rare opportunity to connect directly with professional artists. Each residency includes a week of in-school performances and a final public concert. Past guest artists have included The Reminders, TaikoArts Midwest, and Six Appeal.

Sound School is free for schools and students, and made possible through support from the Minnesota State Arts Board and Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment funding.

This is a ticketed event. All guests will need a ticket, but pricing is designed to be community-friendly. Tickets may be purchased here.

Live captioning will be available at the event via your phone or tablet: streamtext.net/player.
