Construction Continues for the Link Project

Post Date:09/18/2025 5:02 PM

September 19, 2025 – ROCHESTER, MNN. – Work on the Link Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor continues to keep moving, expanding construction activity to both the west and east ends of the project area.  These efforts build on the progress already underway and mark another step toward delivering Rochester’s first-ever BRT system; an investment in faster, fare-free and more sustainable public transit.

West End of Second Street SW (near 18th Avenue SW – 23rd Avenue SW)
Beginning September 22, traffic on 2nd Street SW will shift to maintain one lane in each direction between 18th Avenue SW and 23rd Avenue SW.

As part of this work:

  • The north side of the intersection at 19th Avenue and 2nd Street will be completely closed.
  • Sidewalks, bike lanes and crossings on the north side of 2nd Street SW in the impacted area will also be closed.
  • These impacts are anticipated to continue until November 2025.

A signed detour route will direct traffic via 18th Avenue SW and 1st Street SW, ensuring continued access to nearby businesses.

Eastern Terminus (3rd Avenue SE and 6th Street SE)
Beginning September 29, the intersection of 3rd Avenue SE and 6th Street SE will be fully closed. The closure is anticipated to last until October 27, 2025.

  • Traffic will be detoured onto Broadway Avenue S, accessible from 4th Street SE or 9th Street SE.
  • Access to parking lots and businesses will be maintained.

What to Expect During Construction

Clear signage, pedestrian access and well-marked detour routes will be in place throughout construction. Access to local properties and accommodations for emergency services will be maintained. Construction along the Link corridor is being closely coordinated with other downtown projects to minimize disruption and maximize long-term value.
