The Rochester Police Department (RPD) remains committed to providing the highest level of public safety for everyone in our community.
As is widely known, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is conducting large-scale operations across Minnesota. RPD has not been informed of ICE operations in Rochester but has observed ICE agents in the city.
RPD is not involved in immigration enforcement and defers all immigration enforcement responsibilities to authorized federal agents. Our officers do not ask about immigration status when responding to calls for service or assisting community members.
Our priority as a local law enforcement agency is – and always has been – the protection of public safety and the preservation of order within our community. We recognize that recent events in Minneapolis have prompted strong emotions and a desire for voices to be heard. Peaceful expression is a fundamental constitutional right and an important part of a healthy community. However, actions that obstruct law enforcement operations or escalate into civil unrest cannot be tolerated, as they jeopardize the safety and well-being of all.
RPD remains dedicated to lawful policing and working collaboratively with our community to ensure Rochester remains a safe place for everyone.
