City Council to Host Presentations by Three Potential Operators for Historic Chateau Theatre
The City of Rochester and Destination Medical Center Economic Development Agency (DMC EDA) are pleased to announce that the Rochester City Council will host a special meeting on April 25 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. to hear from three potential operators for the Historic Chateau Theatre’s initial use. The City Council is expected to make a final determination on a selected operator sometime in May 2019.
This step comes after five proposals were received following a call for Request for Proposals (RFP). A multi-disciplinary team comprised of City of Rochester and DMC EDA teammates met with the five groups for a proposal review session. This session led to the selection of three proposals: Entourage Events Group, Exhibits Development Group (EDG), and Arts Trust of Minnesota (ATOM).
Deputy City Administrator Aaron Parrish says, “We greatly appreciate the effort put forth by all five groups in preparing the request for proposal. Each proposal has a unique perspective and approach to operating and managing the Historic Chateau Theatre in this initial phase. We invite and encourage the community to attend the public presentation on April 25. There will be opportunities to engage and give feedback as the City Council moves toward a selection.”
“We look forward to continuing the Chateau Theatre operator and manager selection process with the City Council. There is great excitement in the community for the re-opening of the Chateau Theatre in Heart of the City, which is an important community asset,” says Patrick Seeb, DMC EDA director of economic development and placemaking.
The Destination Medical Center Corporation Board of Directors and the Rochester City Council in 2018 approved $1.1 million in funding for the Chateau’s renovation. Removal of the escalator and second floor is complete. Roof replacement has begun. All initial work to the building is anticipated to be completed by mid-June 2019.
