A Litter Bit Better! 2019 Final Results
The final results are in! Over 17,860 pounds of litter was collected by A Litter Bit Better! volunteers during this year’s event. That is a total of over 8.93 tons! Over 4,000 volunteers picked up over 300 sites that covered many locations around Rochester. Neighborhoods were beautified, citizens gave back to their community, and all of that waste was prevented from polluting our land and water. Approximately 148 tons of litter has been collected in Rochester over the past 13 years through this program. Special thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors for making this program possible for the last 13 years!
Some anecdotal highlights of this year’s event include:
- Of survey respondents, half reported participating in at least one previous event.
- The average time spent collecting is between 1 - 3 hours.
- The most common types of litter collected include plastic bags, fast food packaging, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and cigarette butts.
If anyone sees locations where green and blue A Litter Bit Better! bags have not yet been collected, please notify the Public Works Department at 507-254-8169.
