Community invited to name Ramp 6
May 10, 2019 – ROCHESTER, MINN. – On March 26, the City of Rochester opened its newest public parking facility to the public. Called “Ramp 6” throughout the design and construction process, it is one of the most technologically sophisticated parking ramps in the upper Midwest and provides an additional 630 stalls to the downtown Rochester parking inventory.
Now it is time to give it an official, permanent name—and the public is being invited to participate.
Beginning on May 13 and lasting through the end of the month, the public is invited to submit a suggested name for the structure along with a brief rationale for the suggestion. Names collected will be anonymously evaluated by a panel of representative downtown stakeholders who will then recommend a name to the Rochester City Council.
All are invited to participate by visiting the Rochester Municipal Parking website at www.rochestermn.gov/parking. Limit one submission per person. Though proposed names will be reviewed anonymously, it is necessary to provide a name and contact information for the purposes of contacting participants for questions, clarifications, or notification of selection.
In engaging the public in the naming process, the City of Rochester is seeking to: ensure that facility is easily identified and located; solicit name ideas that are consistent with the values and character of the area, neighborhood, and community; and follow a transparent process which includes public participation.
“Naming a public facility is a great honor and big responsibility. This parking structure is an important part of our city and downtown, and so it is fitting that we tap the creative energy of our diverse community by inviting people to share their ideas,” said Public Works Director Chris Petree.
The person submitting the selected name will have the opportunity to be recognized at a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony being planned for the summer and will receive a certificate for one night stay at the Hilton Rochester Mayo Clinic Area.
Complete details will be available on the website www.rochestermn.gov/parking.
