City Hall Dome to Illuminate Blue in Honor of National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day
On May 15, 2019, the lights surrounding the dome of City Hall will shine blue. This blue illumination will fill the evening cityscape in honor of National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
This is a sign of recognition, remembrance and appreciation for our Law Enforcement Officers in Rochester and across the country, including those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Mayor Norton states, “It is important that we let our community know the essential and vital role that the Rochester Police Department plays safeguarding our lives and property despite personal risk every time an officer puts on the uniform.”
The Rochester Police Department is dedicated to the community it serves. This tribute will be a silent reminder of the courage, dedication and sacrifice officers make to help ensure the safety of those within our community whether residents, employees or visitors.
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Join us as we honor our officers this week and make time to see City Hall lighted blue on May 15.
