Rochester gears up for bike to work day
ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA — May 15, 2019 — The Rochester community is invited to break out their two-wheelers, ditch their cars for the day, and enjoy a spin through the city on May 17 for Bike to Work Day.
According to the American League of Bicyclists, 40 percent of all U.S. trips are less than two miles, making bicycling a feasible, fun way to travel to work. Bike to Work Day provides an opportunity to get out from behind the wheel and test out pedaling to work alongside friends, family, and coworkers.
Led by Arrive Rochester in partnership with the City of Rochester, We Bike Rochester, and Rochester Downtown Alliance, the day includes a celebration at Peace Plaza from 6:30 a.m. – 9 a.m.. Bike riders citywide can make a pit stop at Arrive Rochester’s energizer station to refuel with breakfast, raffle prizes and giveaways. Arrive Rochester will be located at the west end of Peace Plaza.
Bike to Work Day is part of Bike Month, taking place through May. Throughout the month, Arrive Rochester is hosting a challenge. Anyone who records their bike commute through the Arrive Rochester rewards platform in May will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win one of four $50 gift cards for Nova Restaurant Group. Sign up at ArriveRochester.com to start logging trips.
Rochester Public Transit is offering free trips on Bike to Work day when you bring your bike. All RPT buses have front-mounted racks that hold up to two bicycles. Use transit for part of your bike commute on Friday and no fare is needed!
Join the movement! Use Rochester’s public bike-sharing program by visiting the public bike-sharing locations at the Rochester Public Library and Rochester City Hall (through the Parks & Recreation Office). Bikes are available at no cost; borrowers will be asked to complete a waiver.
