City of Rochester Community Development Department to launch July 1

Post Date:06/06/2019 3:53 PM
On July 1, 2019, the City of Rochester will take the next step toward its commitment to deliver a positive and deliberate customer service experience to residents, business owners, developers, entrepreneurs, and the construction community by officially launching the new Community Development Department.

Community Development, led by Director Cindy Steinhauser, will consist of 13 teammates, including experts in planning, development, zoning compliance, sustainability, urban design and heritage preservation, communications and engagement, and administrative support.

The City of Rochester saw record growth in construction and development for 2018 with city-issued building permits totaling nearly $600 million. “We are positioning ourselves to respond to the consistent and unprecedented growth we see in this community,” says Steinhauser. “The formation of the City’s new Community Development Department is part of the City Council’s vision to be intentional and strategic about the transformation of Rochester – both now and in the coming years.”

Successful community development requires intentional and proactive strategies to promote engagement, build relationships, and ultimately improve the physical, economic, environmental, and social quality of a community.

In alignment with the City’s Vision to be a vibrant, compassionate, innovative team, the establishment of the Community Development Department is the first phase in the city’s longer-term plan to create a one-stop development services center. This collaboration will bring the newly-formed Community Development Department as well as the Building Safety and Public Works Departments together under one roof to provide a more seamless customer service experience for those seeking to build, develop, and invest in Rochester.
