The City of Rochester Domes to Be Illuminated for Pride Prom
For the fifth straight year, the Rochester Public Library (RPL) is hosting the teens-only after-party for LGBTQIA+ teens and their allies. The “Totally 80s” themed Pride Prom features food, games, activities and community organizations, with music programmed by the City of Rochester Music Department and Riverside Concerts. In support of the event, the City Hall domes will be illuminated on June 15, 2019 with all of the colors of the rainbow.
Mayor Kim Norton shared, “The illumination of the City Hall dome lights is one way to show support for the event. I believe that all of the young people in our community should feel safe, valued and welcomed for who they are.”
According to RPL, Pride Prom will be held on June 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the library. Teens in grades 7-12 are welcome to participate and must show a school or state ID at the door, unless prior arrangements have been made. Teens without an ID can contact Sarah Joynt at firstname.lastname@example.org to make other arrangements.
"Having the lights of the City Hall domes representing pride sends a strong message to our LGBTQIA+ teens: They are appreciated and supported in Rochester," shared Teen Librarian Sarah Joynt.
