Rochester Police Athletic/Activity League 2019 Shop with a Cop
The Rochester Police Activity League announces the 16th annual Shop with a Cop program. The goal of Shop with a Cop is to provide kids in need the opportunity to have a brighter holiday, while at the same time promoting positive relationships between police officers and area youth. This is all while enjoying a special day with an officer shopping for holiday gifts for loved ones.
Around 60+ Rochester Police Officers, Olmsted Country Sheriff’s Deputies, Community Service Officers, Detention Deputies, MN State Patrol Troopers, and Rochester Police Explorers, will gather at Wal-Mart North in Rochester on December 14th, 2019 along with 70 area students in need for this annual holiday giving program. From Noon to 3pm, selected participants pair up with the local law enforcement officers and shop throughout Walmart for holiday gifts.
Area sponsors Canadian Honker, City Auto Glass, Rochester Police Benevolent Association, Olmsted County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Culver’s help make this event possible.
“We thank our generous sponsors for their commitment to making the holiday season brighter for our area youth and their families. The Shop with a Cop program is a wonderful example of the way our community comes together for those in need. PAL is proud to host this great event,” share Sgt. Ryan Manguson of the Rochester Police Department.
Each child is given a $110.00 gift card to purchase gifts for themselves and family members. The child is encouraged to budget the money given to them to purchase a gift for each person on their holiday list. Participants and officers are also treated with lunch from Sam’s Club, ice cream from Culver’s, a tour of police vehicles, K-9 demonstrations, and end with gifts wrapped and ready for their holiday celebration.
Sgt. Ryan Manguson can be reached at 507-421-6220 on the day of the event. Media is invited and encouraged to be at Walmart North at approximately 11:00 a.m. to complete any interviews with public safety personnel.
