RPT to increase service at two park and ride locations
Responding to growing commuter demand, Rochester Public Transit (RPT) will be increasing service to the IBM and Fairgrounds Park & Ride facilities.
Starting Monday, May 18, RPT will begin more frequent service, with trips every 10 minutes during morning and afternoon peak times. During the midday hours, trips will be scheduled every 30 minutes. Complete schedule details are posted on rptride.com.
Additional buses will be deployed for overflow, but the number of available buses and drivers is limited. Passengers are asked to arrive early (10 or 20 minutes after the hour, for example) in order to distribute more equally the number of passengers throughout the hour.
The change affects the two most frequented park and ride locations: IBM and Fairgrounds/Graham Park. Service to two other park and rides—the 15D at Target South and the 4D at Cub Foods—remains suspended. Service to Chateau Theater and Rochester Community and Technical College is unchanged from the posted reduced core service schedule.
Policies to protect the safety of drivers and passengers remain in place. Buses are disinfected daily and frequent wipe downs are part of the regular service day. All riders are required to wear a face covering. No fare is being collected, and passengers should use the rear door when boarding. Lower maximum occupancy is being practiced by drivers to allow for proper social distancing.
