Businesses on Broadway between Center Street and Civic Center Drive are open during construction

Post Date:06/12/2020 9:45 AM

June 12, 2020 - ROCHESTER, MINN. – Businesses located along Broadway Avenue North between Center Street and Civic Center Drive are accessible during the construction project that has closed Broadway Avenue.

Wayfinding signs are in place to help direct vehicle traffic to these establishments. Vehicle access to businesses on the west of Broadway Avenue will be from the west via 1 Avenue NW. Vehicle access to the businesses on the east of Broadway Avenue will be from the east via 1 Avenue NE. Municipal parking ramps in this area are open and there is no charge for vehicles that are in and out of the ramp in under an hour.

Sidewalks along both sides of Broadway Avenue North remain open during construction. Pedestrians will need to cross Broadway Avenue North at either Civic Center Drive or 1 Street NW/NE. Sidewalk detour signs will be posted as necessary.

The closure of Broadway Avenue North between Center Street and Civic Center Drive is expected to last until August 8. Project work will continue down 3 Street NW and wayfinding signs will be provided for impacted businesses. The entire project is expected to be completed by fall of 2020.

The 1st Street NW Sanitary Sewer Diversion project is creating additional sanitary sewer capacity for the downtown area. Sanitary sewer work requires deep excavation under the existing roadway. The complete closure of Broadway Avenue and 3 Street NW allows the project to be completed in approximately half the time resulting in less long term impact to the community.
