City Council to Be Asked to Support Mayor Kim Norton’s Emergency Declaration Amendment Requiring Masks in City Facilities
On June 27, 2020, Mayor Kim Norton signed the second amendment to the existing Emergency Declaration, which will now require individuals to wear a face covering while in a City of Rochester facility. This requirement is coupled with a strong encouragement of individuals to wear face coverings and for businesses to require face coverings as well. The City Council will be asked to provide support for the amendment on June 29, 2020.
Mayor Kim Norton states, “The City of Rochester is committed to supporting the health and safety of our community and teammates, as we continue to provide important City services. I hope community members begin to or resume wearing face coverings. Business also have an opportunity to support this by making face coverings a requirement. If COVID-19 cases increase, I fear the state will need to turn the dial back, which is in the opposite direction of what we need to reenergize our economy and enjoy time with family and friends.”
Currently, an increase in COVID-19 cases is occurring across the nation. The City Council will be asked to vote in support of Mayor Norton’s amendment during the City Council meeting on June 29, 2020.
