Filing Requirements

Campaign Finance Information and Report Forms

An initial campaign finance report must be filed within 14 days of reaching the set threshold for either spending or receiving money in a calendar year. Once an initial report is required, additional reports are required on timelines set by state law. Reports must continue to be filed based on the schedule established in state law until a final report is filed, indicating a candidate or committee has settled all debts and disposed of all assets in excess of $100.

The Campaign Financial Report from can be filed for each of the required report types, and can be submitted electronically.

Initial Reports

Candidates or their campaign committees

  • Must file an initial campaign report with the City Clerk's Office within 14 days of either receiving or spending a total of $750 or more in a calendar year.

Committees or Corporations

  • Must file an initial campaign report with the City Clerk's Office within 14 days of spending more than $750 for or against a ballot question in a calendar year.

Annual Reports

After an initial report is filed, an annual report must be filed by January 31 of each year following the year in which the initial report was filed. Annual reports must continue to be filed every year until a final report is filed indicating all campaign debts are settled and the candidate or committee has less than $100 in assets remaining.

Election Year Reports

An "election year" is any year in which the candidate's name or a question appears on the ballot. No reports are required until the candidate, campaign, or committee reaches the $750 threshold for spending or receiving contributions. Any reports falling after an initial report must be submitted will be due on the dates indicated.

  • 2020 Pre-Primary Report Due July 31, 2020 (for candidates on the primary ballot)
  • 2020 Pre-General Report Due Oct. 23, 2020 (for candidates on the general election ballot)
  • Campaign Financial Report Certification of Filing Due Nov. 7, 2020
  • 2020 Post-General Report Due Dec. 3, 2020 (for candidates on the general election ballot)
  • Year-end Report Due Jan. 31, 2021 (for all candidates from any election cycle who have not filed a final report)

All candidates appearing on the November General Election Ballot must also complete and file a Certification of Filing within 7 days after the election, regardless of whether they were required to file an initial report.
