Our spring kickoff to the golf season began this past weekend with the opening of Eastwood and Soldiers Field golf courses. We were quite busy with hundreds of golfers navigating the new way to play golf in the Covid-19 era. With more nice weather in the forecast, it looks like the golf season is here to stay this spring.
As we've told many golfers, the golf hasn't changed much this year but the registration process sure has. So has the social aspect of golf - sharing a drink or a meal after a round of golf is something we can hope for later in the season but not now. Organized golf activities will also be played again, hopefully some can start in the coming month or two. Unlike so many participants in other sports or activities, golfers have the good fortune to play a game that allows for good social distancing. We're confident golf activities will continue to improve as we move into summer.
As with so many things these days, decisions are being made on a nearly daily basis, affected by the information available at the time. Within the coming days or weeks, Rochester city golfers are likely to see continued changes in how we operate: Which facilities are open and in what capacity, safety standards and practices in the clubhouses and on the golf courses, staffing levels and services provided, and more. There’s often no rulebook to follow, everyone involved with Rochester city golf is attempting to do the best they can with what's available. Our ultimate concern is to provide a safe, enjoyable experience for all golfers.
If you haven't already, please read our information for check-in and other golf procedures posted on our city website at Rochestermngolf.com. We've found many golfers had viewed this information before coming to the golf course in the last few days, which greatly helped them with registration and play on the golf course.
While we've found that golfers have different safety levels when it comes to golf this year, as a golf staff we're committed to providing the safest, most virus free, golf experience possible. For season pass holders (not patrons) check-in can be done from outside (if walking). We'll continue to provide the safest environment possible throughout the golf season for all golfers. Golf carts are disinfected after each use, golf shops are set up for one way traffic only, restrooms, pop machines, door knobs, and other “high touch” objects are disinfected throughout the day. While nothing can be assumed to be 100% safe, we're committed to maintaining as a high standard as possible.
We hope you're able to enjoy your golf in the days ahead. We've seen some really good social distancing and some taken to an extreme with big slices off the tee box - don’t let that happen to you! There's plenty of room in the fairway for 4 golfers. We hope you and your group find yourself walking down plenty of those fairways your next time out.
