Throughout the year, CUDE accepts nominations from community members about projects in these eight categories that they feel exceed expectations. Each fall, an annual awards breakfast is held to celebrate these projects and the individuals and organizations that bring them to life.
RESIDENTIAL: Awards for this category are given for new residential development, conversion, or improvement made to existing residential areas. The entry may be for either single-family, or multi-family developments of single buildings or multiple structures.
COMMERCIAL: All types of new construction or adaptive use of existing business structures that are open to the public. This includes, but is not limited to offices, restaurants, and retail uses.
HISTORIC PRESERVATION / REHABILITATION: Preservation or rehabilitation of existing buildings which are important in defining Rochester’s early character and community identity.
INSTITUTIONAL: For all governmental projects including, but not limited to, recreation, government offices, education, and transportation projects or facilities.
INDUSTRIAL: Industrial, warehouse or corporate projects not normally open to the public that has a positive impact on the city’s visual environment.
ENVIRONMENTAL INNOVATION OR CONSERVATION: Projects that significantly preserve and protect the Natural Environment. Projects restoring negatively impacted natural systems are also eligible for consideration.
LANDSCAPE: Exceptional landscape design installations in Residential, Commercial, Institutional, and Industrial settings. Due to the evolving nature of a maturing Landscape, nominations may be made between one and five years after a landscape installation is complete.
OUTSTANDING MAINTAINED APPEARANCE: Projects that are over five years old and have consistently maintained a high quality appearance contributing to Rochester’s image.
