Chip Sealing of Various Streets to Begin Week of June 29

WHERE: Project areas are shown on the Construction Impacts Map

WHEN: Beginning the week of June 29

The City of Rochester Street Maintenance team will begin the 2026 Chip Seal project the week of June 29. Yellow “NO PARKING TOW AWAY ZONE” signs will begin going up later this week to prepare residents and motorists for upcoming work. This maintenance work extends the life of newer pavement by resealing the surface. Information about the project is available on the City of Rochester website.

The chip seal project will take place in three phases, with the following tentative schedule:

  • Week of June 29: Preparatory work, including sweeping and cleaning streets

  • Week of July 22: Chip sealing

  • Week of July 29: Clean-up work, including sweeping loose chips

These dates may vary depending on weather and progression.

“No Parking” signs (as noted above) will be posted on affected streets ahead of work. All parking is prohibited in the posted work zones Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Violators will be ticketed and towed. Unless posted otherwise, parking is permitted on weekends and outside of work hours. Signs will remain up through July 31 or until all clean-up is completed.

Residents should expect temporary street closures, short-term delays and increased traffic congestion near chip seal zones. Streets can be driven on once chips are placed and rolled, but caution is advised as loose chips will remain until street sweeping is complete. Loose gravel signs will be posted in affected areas. Final striping will follow sweeping on select roads.

Rochester Public Transit (RPT) riders are encouraged to use the Transit app to sign up for alerts related to their routes. The RPT website (www.rptride.com) also has detour information.
