The Adopt-a-Park Program is a great community service opportunity that gives Rochester residents, families, organizations and businesses the chance to help keep parks clean, safe and welcoming for everyone. Participants primarily assist by picking up litter, reporting vandalism or unsafe conditions and helping maintain the appearance of designated park areas throughout the community. If you are interested in making Rochester a better place to live, work and play, consider adopting a park.
The Rochester Parks & Recreation Department works with volunteers to determine the size and type of each Adopt-a-Park project. The department also helps coordinate the disposal of collected trash and brush. For disposal, tools or supplies, contact Mike Schaber or Jeff Feece.
Volunteer groups agree to help care for their adopted area at least once per month from April through October. Volunteers provide basic supplies like garbage bags and gloves, though some tools or supplies may be available through the department. Groups should report vandalism or damaged equipment and contact the department before starting any construction or improvement projects in a park.
Adoptions are renewed each year. Participants must confirm they want to continue in the program by the end of March. To renew or end an adoption commitment, contact Jeff Feece.
Adopt-a-Park participants are recognized below and may also request a recognition sign for their park area. The cost is $250, which includes the sign, posts and installation. The Parks & Recreation Department approves all sign wording, design and placement.
The Rochester Parks & Recreation Department thanks all Adopt-a-Park volunteers for helping keep Rochester parks clean, safe and welcoming for the community.
