City of Rochester Celebrates National Park and Recreation Month
The City of Rochester is joining communities across the country in celebrating National Park and Recreation Month this July, recognizing the parks, trails, programs and dedicated staff, which help make Rochester a healthy, active and connected community.
Rochester's park system includes more than 100 parks, 85 miles of paved trails and more than 3,500 acres of public parkland. Residents can enjoy playgrounds, golf courses, picnic shelters, beaches, pools, sports fields, dog parks and many other recreational amenities throughout the city.
Beyond maintaining these spaces, the Rochester Parks & Recreation Department provides recreational opportunities for people of all ages and abilities through youth programs, adult leagues, adaptive recreation, outdoor activities and community events.
"Park and Recreation Month is an opportunity to celebrate not only the places where our community gathers, but also the people who work every day to keep those spaces welcoming, safe and enjoyable," said Paul Widman, Rochester Parks & Recreation Director. "Whether you're exploring a new trail, spending time at your neighborhood park or participating in a recreation program, I hope residents take time this month to discover something new and enjoy everything Rochester's parks and recreation system has to offer."
National Park and Recreation Month is celebrated each July to recognize the essential role parks and recreation play in enhancing quality of life, supporting health and wellness, protecting natural resources and strengthening community connections.
