Future Altra Sportsplex to Support Youth, Families and Community Recreation in Rochester

The City of Rochester and Altra Federal Credit Union today announced a new partnership that will give Rochester’s future sports and recreation complex a name built for play: Altra Sportsplex. 

The partnership marks a significant milestone for one of Rochester’s largest investments in community recreation and reflects a shared commitment to creating more opportunities for youth, families, athletes and visitors to play, connect and make memories for generations to come. 

Located in southeast Rochester, Altra Sportsplex is being developed as a community-focused destination for recreation, youth and adult sports, tournaments, community gatherings and outdoor activities. The complex will include a variety of athletic fields and courts, trails, an accessible playground and spaces designed for people to gather, cheer, compete and spend time together. 

Supported by Rochester’s voter-approved local sales tax, the Altra Sportsplex will enhance the quality of sports facilities available in Rochester and the region, creating more opportunities for local athletes to train and compete while positioning Rochester to host regional tournaments and competitive athletic events.

City Administrator Alison Zelms said partnership is an important part of the City’s vision for creating a facility that serves the community today while remaining financially sustainable for years to come. 

“Altra’s investment demonstrates the kind of community partnership that will help make this facility successful for the long term,” Zelms said. “The Altra Sportsplex is about creating more opportunities for people to play, connect and spend time together, while also welcoming athletes and visitors to Rochester. We’re grateful to Altra for sharing that vision and investing in this community.” 

The Altra partnership is part of a broader effort to bring businesses and organizations into the Sportsplex story. Knutson Construction, which is serving as construction manager for the project, is also investing in the facility through a sponsorship that will establish Knutson Field at the Sportsplex. 

Additional sponsorship and partnership opportunities remain available, giving businesses and organizations a chance to support the Altra Sportsplex while connecting their brands with a community destination expected to serve residents and welcome athletes and visitors from throughout the region.

Construction of Altra Sportsplex began in 2026, with initial amenities expected to open in 2027 and additional development planned thereafter. In addition to expanding recreation opportunities for Rochester residents, the complex is expected to host regional tournaments and events that bring visitors to the community. 

The partnership was developed in collaboration with Sports Academy Services, LLC and High Level Promotions, LLC, which are supporting the Altra Sportsplex's development and sponsorship efforts.
