Lime Scooters and E-Bikes Return April 13 with Program Improvements Focused on Parking, Access, and Clear Paths

April 13, 2026 – Rochester, MN – Lime e-scooters and e-bicycles will return to Rochester beginning April 13, supporting short trips and connections across the community. In 2025, total rides increased 21 percent, reflecting growing demand for shared micromobility as a convenient option for some trips. To meet increasing demand in 2026, Lime will deploy additional devices this season, expanding availability for residents and visitors. As part of the seasonal micromobility launch, the City is also sharing a short set of shared-space courtesy reminders for all path and sidewalk users.

Steve Sampson Brown, Director of Construction shares, “Rochester’s transportation system works best when people have real choices for how they get around. Shared micromobility devices like scooters help by making it easier to replace some vehicle trips, which reduces demand for motor vehicle parking at the end of a trip. Transportation choices support our mode shift targets by easing pressure on downtown streets and parking, while helping the whole system move more safely and efficiently for people walking, rolling, cycling, taking transit, and driving.”

What to know about Lime in 2026:

  • No Parking Zones have been created on select shared-use path segments to reduce obstructions and keep paths clear for people walking, rolling, cycling, and using mobility aids.

  • Mandatory parking zones and physical corrals are in place in priority areas to improve parking compliance and keep sidewalks and curb ramps accessible.

  • Device clusters at partner sites will improve availability for group trips and reduce the need to search for devices.

As paths and sidewalks get busier in spring, the City is sharing a few simple reminders to help shared spaces stay predictable, comfortable, and accessible for everyone-- whether you walk, run, roll, use a mobility aid, bike, or use shared micromobility. Residents can find where-to-ride guidance, how-to-park guidance, and seasonal updates on the City’s Active Transportation webpage.

When using a shared space, remember to:

  • Keep right. Pass left.

  • Announce when passing (use a bell or a quick “On your left”)

  • Control your speed and yield to others, especially in crowded areas

  • Be predictable (hold your line and look before stopping, turning, or moving left)

  • Use headphones responsibly so you can hear others around you

  • Pets: keep them leashed, keep right, and clean up after them

  • Leave no trace: pack out trash, including pet waste bags

  • Ride bikes and electric scooters where permitted and park properly so sidewalks, curb ramps, entrances, and paths remain clear for others. To review specific laws regarding motorized foot scooters, please reference Minnesota Statute 169.225

Rochester drivers can help keep shared spaces safe by:

  • Slowing down as they approach crossings

  • Actively scanning for people stepping into the crosswalk or entering from a trail

  • Yielding patiently

  • Giving people biking over three feet of space when passing.
