Mayor Norton Invites Residents to October Community Walks

Rochester Mayor Kim Norton invites community members to join her for three Community Walks in October as part of Move with the Mayor. These October walks will be especially meaningful as Norton’s term as mayor comes to an end.

Walking has been a consistent part of Move with the Mayor since Norton launched the initiative in fall 2021. Over the years, residents have been encouraged to get moving through walking challenges, a Women’s Walk in 2023 and walks through Rochester’s downtown skyway and subway system in 2024. The upcoming walks will continue that focus while giving residents an opportunity to connect with Mayor Norton in an informal setting.

“These walks are about more than getting our steps in. They’re about connecting with people, having conversations and encouraging one another to make our health and well-being a priority,” said Mayor Norton. “As I prepare to wrap up my time as mayor, I hope community members will join me in October. I’m grateful for the many people who have walked alongside me over the years, both literally and figuratively, and I look forward to spending this time together.”

Community Walks will be held:

  • Friday, Oct. 9, 7-9 a.m. — RCTC Sports Center, 851 30th Ave. SE

  • Saturday, Oct. 10, 8-10 a.m. — Silver Lake Three Links Shelter, 840 7th St. NE

  • Saturday, Oct. 24, 8-9 a.m. — RCTC Sports Center, 851 30th Ave. SE, as part of the Polio Walk

Move with the Mayor encourages community members to stay active, connect with others and improve their health through community events, challenges and wellness resources.

Community Wellness Initiative

As a City for Health, Mayor Norton is also partnering with HealMint on a three-month community wellness initiative focused on building healthier daily habits.

Participants will wear a smart ring and use an app to receive personalized insights related to sleep, heart rate, activity, recovery and stress trends.

The rings are available for $20 to the first 60 community members who register. After the first 60 registrations, rings will be available for $49.99. The retail value of the rings is $129.99.

To participate, community members can visit the HealMint Move with Mayor Norton website and select “Register for the Initiative.” Participants will receive their ring at one of the October Community Walks listed above.
