Meet Your Mayor and City Council This Summer with Rochester's Elected Official Passport
The City of Rochester is encouraging community members to connect with local government in a fun new way this summer through the Elected Official Passport.
The passport program encourages residents to meet the Mayor, City Council President and City Councilmembers, learn more about their ward and discover how local government works. Community members can pick up a free passport at City Hall, the Rochester Public Library and community events throughout the summer.
Those wishing to participate can collect personalized stickers from elected officials at community events and at the City's tent, including at Safe City Nights on June 9. Participants who collect at least six of the eight elected official stickers can redeem their completed passport for a one-time admission pass to either Silver Lake Pool or Soldiers Field Pool. Pool passes are limited to one per person while supplies last. Completed passports should be returned to the Parks & Recreation office at City Hall or at a Safe City Nights event.
The activity is designed to make local government more approachable while helping community members better understand Rochester's ward system and the role elected officials play in representing residents and shaping the community.
"We want local government to feel accessible, approachable and connected to everyday life," said City Administrator Alison Zelms. "This activity offers a fun way for residents to connect with the elected officials who represent them and better understand how local government works. It also creates opportunities for elected officials to engage with community members, hear directly from residents and build stronger connections throughout the community."
In addition to collecting stickers, participants can:
-
Pick up elected official trading cards featuring the Mayor and Councilmembers.
-
Add a pin to a large community map to identify where they live and learn which Ward they call home.
-
Collect special "Future Mayor" and "Future Councilmember" stickers.
To help make sticker collecting easy, elected official stickers will also be available on a rotating basis at the City's outreach tent during Safe City Nights and other community events throughout the summer.
Passports are available while supplies last and are open to community members of all ages.
