Open Houses for Reimagining Sixth Avenue W Project

June 2, 2026 - ROCHESTER, MN. – The City of Rochester invites community members to learn more about the Reimagining Sixth Avenue W project at one of the following open houses: 

• Tuesday, June 16 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Spyhouse Coffee Roasters, located at 601 2nd Street SW, Rochester
• Tuesday, June 30 from Noon to 1 p.m. via Teams

Join project staff to view the approved street layout and the benefits, ask questions and learn what to expect as the project advances. Everyone is welcome.

The Sixth Avenue West project will modernize the important connection between the expanding Mayo Clinic campus and surrounding neighborhoods by creating a safer, greener and more comfortable street for everyone who uses it. Updates support walking/rolling, biking, transit access and driving, while enhancing the overall look and feel of the corridor. The project area extends along Sixth Avenue West from 2nd Street SW to Civic Center Drive, with additional improvements on a handful of adjacent east-west cross streets.

Project features include:

• Wider sidewalks, dedicated bike lanes and an increase in trees and green space
• Safety enhancements for people walking and biking
• New traffic signals and dedicated turn lanes for smoother traffic flow
• Raised crossings, curb extensions and narrower driving lanes to slow vehicle speeds and improve visibility
