Progress on Link Continues
Construction activity on the Link Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project continues as Rochester moves deeper into the 2026 construction season. Crews have been busy making visible progress along the corridor, helping keep the project on pace for its first fare-free Link rides in Fall 2027. With work now past the early-season ramp-up, the Rochester workforce, residents, and visitors will see construction expand to new areas of the corridor as the project reaches important midyear milestones.
Construction will continue in phases this summer, bringing lane shifts, traffic pattern changes and occasional full closures. Link construction timelines are coordinated with other downtown projects to help reduce disruptions where possible.
Beginning on July 6, the 3rd Avenue SE Bridge will be closed through mid-August.
Vehicles will be detoured along East Center Street, Broadway Avenue S and 4th Street SE. The sidewalks on the bridge will also be closed. Pedestrians and cyclists can cross the river using the pedestrian bridge to the west behind the Government Center. The trails passing underneath the 3rd Avenue Bridge will remain open.
The temporary bridge closure allows crews to complete regular maintenance in advance of Link. These improvements will also support a safer, more comfortable and more accessible experience for pedestrians.
Drivers are encouraged to plan additional travel time to reach their destination as delays are expected in the vicinity of this closure. For more information on traveling downtown, please visit: www.downtownrochesterconstruction.org.
