Rochester Public Transit Offering “A Cool Place to Be”

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Advisory for Rochester from Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 2. In response, Rochester Public Transit (RPT) is activating the fare-free program “Cool Place to Be.”

During this time, people caught outside in the extreme heat can notify an RPT driver that they need to escape the heat and cool down, and no fare will be charged to board the bus.

Parking and Transit Director Rachel Fautsch shares, “Our transit vehicles are on the streets and in the neighborhoods 365 days a year. When the conditions outside are dangerous, we encourage people to board a bus to stay safe.”

Updates will be shared on the City of Rochester website and social media channels as conditions change.
