Rochester Students Invited to Enter Mayor for a Day Essay Contest

What would you do if you were mayor for a day? The City of Rochester is encouraging fourth, fifth and sixth graders to answer that question as part of the League of Minnesota Cities' annual Mayor for a Day Essay Contest.

Students are invited to share their ideas for their community for a chance to win $100 and be featured in Minnesota Cities magazine.

"Young people have great ideas, and I love hearing what they think would make Rochester an even better place to live," said Mayor Kim Norton. "This is a fun opportunity for students to use their imaginations, think about their community and share what's important to them."

The deadline to enter is Friday, Dec. 11, 2026. Essays can be submitted online, by email or through the mail. Winners will be notified in early January.
