On September 17 just before 8 p.m., officers were dispatched to 5033 Commercial Dr. SW for a report of a crash. Officers discovered a man drove his truck into the building approximately 75 feet and then crashed into a utility pole. People were inside the building at the time, but no one was injured. The driver was transported by MCAS for evaluation and faces charges including DWI.
Three people were arrested following a crime spree including theft of a firearm.
On September 16, just before noon, officers were dispatched to the area of 5100 Sydnie Road NW on a report that a handgun and wallet were stolen from inside a vehicle. The victim’s credit card was used at a nearby business. Officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle around 12:15 p.m. on the 3900 block of 41st St. NW. The driver, Ahmed Hussein, age 19, Rochester, was arrested and faces charges for theft and financial transaction card fraud.
Investigation into similar reports of thefts from vehicles led to another suspect, Dakaree Johnson, age 19, Rochester. That same day around 2:30 p.m., officers located him in a vehicle -- later determined to be stolen -- near West Frontage Road and 55th St. NW. They attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled. Officers did not pursue. Minutes later, the Minnesota State Patrol received calls about the same vehicle recklessly driving north on Hwy 52 and began monitoring it as it traveled to Minneapolis. Johnson and Chan Malith, age 20, Rochester, were taken into custody in Minneapolis. The stolen handgun was recovered inside the vehicle. Johnson and Malith face multiple felony charges.
