Commercial Sustainability Programs

Business participation in sustainability programs is crucial for enhancing community sustainability and resilience. By adopting energy efficiency measures, renewable energy initiatives, active transportation, and waste reduction efforts, businesses help achieve community-wide goals while demonstrating environmental leadership. The City and Rochester Public Utilities offer resources and programs to support businesses in these efforts.

Rebates & Resources

Rochester Public Utilities’ (RPU) commercial Conserve and Save™ rebates provide incentives for businesses to make energy-efficient and electrification improvements, including lighting upgrades, heating and cooling system upgrades, and commercial kitchen upgrades. View the full list of eligible improvements and application forms for the Conserve and Save™ rebates.

Minnesota Energy Resources offers energy-efficiency business rebates for improvements such as furnace tune-ups, increased insulation, and new water-heating systems.

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022 provides businesses and other entities with numerous forms of monetary incentives to invest in clean energy and improve energy efficiency. Notably, businesses can earn tax credits for building energy-efficient homes, investing in and producing clean energy, and purchasing electric vehicles. 

Commercial property owners interested in energy-efficiency or renewable-energy upgrades may consider Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) financing through MinnPACE. MinnPACE works with property owners across Minnesota to finance clean energy investments, repaid over time through property taxes. MinnPACE investments tend to be cash positive with utility savings exceeding payment obligations. More information can be found at Minnpace.com.

The State of Minnesota has energy programs for businesses, utilities, and other entities, supporting clean energy adoption through grants, loans, and matching funds.
