As part of the City's routine summer water quality monitoring, this week's testing found elevated bacteria levels at Cascade Lake Beach that require a temporary beach closure.
Foster Arend Beach and Cascade Lake Beach are tested weekly throughout the summer to help provide a safe swimming experience. Bacteria levels can increase for a variety of reasons, including runoff after heavy rainfall, wildlife in the area and hot weather.
Cascade Lake Beach will be retested next week. Updates will be shared on the City's website and Facebook page.
Foster Arend Beach remains open daily from noon to 8 p.m.
The City thanks residents for their patience and understanding as staff work to protect the health and safety of the community.
Beginning Monday, July 6, the playground and basketball courts at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park will be fenced off and closed through the fall as construction gets underway.
Final construction work at the McQuillan Splash Pad is complete, but the facility's opening will be delayed approximately two to three more weeks while awaiting a required final inspection by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).
The City of Rochester is joining communities across the country in celebrating National Park and Recreation Month this July, recognizing the parks, trails, programs and dedicated staff, which help make Rochester a healthy, active and connected community.
July 4 operations at Soldiers Field Aquatic Center will be:
Open swim from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
No morning designated lazy river water walking, lap swim or toddler time
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA), in collaboration with federal partners, has identified three areas in the City of Rochester that will be aerially managed to slow the spread of spongy moth in Minnesota.
Final construction work is underway at the McQuillan Splash Pad as crews prepare to open the facility to the public.
The Adopt-a-Park Program is a community service opportunity that gives Rochester residents the chance to help keep parks clean and looking their best. Participants commit to picking up litter and reporting vandalism, broken equipment or other unsafe conditions observed in the park.
Based on forecasted weather conditions and the final inspection occurring later today, the newly improved Silver Lake Pool is now expected to open to the public on Tuesday, June 9.
Cascade Lake Beach, Foster Arend Beach and the Lincolnshire Splash Pad will open Saturday, May 23, kicking off summer water recreation opportunities across the city. The Soldiers Field Aquatic Center will open Friday, June 5, followed by the newly improved Silver Lake Pool and Silver Lake Splash Pad on Monday, June 8. The new McQuillan Splash Pad will also be available for residents to enjoy throughout the summer season.
