Renewable Energy

Transitioning to electricity as the primary energy source, especially when it is generated from renewable resources like wind, solar, and hydropower, significantly reduces reliance on fossil fuels. By shifting from fossil fuels to cleaner electricity, the community not only reduces the carbon footprint of residential, commercial and industrial activities but also enhances energy resiliency, building a more reliable and sustainable energy system.

Unlike energy produced from combusting fossil fuels, energy harnessed from natural resources such as the sun, wind, and water is clean, consistent, and renewable. A great way for Rochester residents to harness this energy is to invest in solar panels. Advances in technology, declining equipment costs, and financial assistance in the form of tax credits and incentives are making solar an increasingly attractive clean energy option.

A simple alternative to investing in solar is to join Rochester Public Utilities’ Carbon Offset Program. For a small additional fee, your home can be powered by clean energy generated by the Lake Zumbro Hydro Plant.
