Dental Amalgam Program

The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Dental Rule became effective on July 14, 2017. The Dental Rule consists of pretreatment standards intended to reduce mercury discharges from dental offices to wastewater treatment plants. Dental facilities can be a source of mercury due to the use of mercury-containing dental amalgam fittings.

The City of Rochester has a form for dental offices required to comply with the EPA's Dental Rule.

If you have any questions about whether or not your dental facility needs to complete the one-time certification form or any other dental amalgam-related questions, please contact the Water Reclamation Plant at 507-328-2650.
