City of Compassion

On September 18, 2017, the City of Rochester was designated A City of Compassion.

What occurs when compassion is declared as a guiding principle of our City, and we are encouraged to develop this in all areas of our lives, in our workplaces, our schools, places of worship, the public square, as a community as a whole?

Supporting this is the enlivening of understanding and the practice of compassion from the inside out.  We commit to pursuing this transformative work to enliven our connection to all.   We ask, how do we relate to our own and others’ suffering?  And what becomes our best work to relieve that suffering in our communities and to the world at large. As individuals in the community, we are challenged to respond.
